🍯 Behind the Buzz: A Day in the Life of Our Beekeeping Operation

Featuring Master Beekeeper Frank Licata

At Mountain Ridge Farm, every jar of honey tells a story—of patience, precision, and passion. Behind that story is Frank Licata, our master beekeeper and the heart of our operation. With over 200 beehives spread across 9 different bee yards nestled in the beautiful Poconos and Endless Mountains, Frank’s dedication ensures that each drop of honey is as pure and delicious as nature intended.

The Art of Beekeeping

Beekeeping isn’t just a job—it’s a way of life. It takes an intimate understanding of bee behavior, changing seasons, and environmental conditions. Frank Licata has spent years mastering this delicate balance, caring for our colonies with incredible skill and respect.

From monitoring hive health to managing swarms, Frank tends to every yard with dedication, making sure our bees thrive and produce high-quality honey without the use of unnecessary chemicals or shortcuts. His knowledge and patience have become a guiding light for our family business.

Our Bee Yards

Our bees roam freely among wildflowers, forests, and meadows across the Poconos and Endless Mountains of Pennsylvania. Each location offers a unique nectar source, giving our honey its rich and varied flavor. The diversity of our landscapes—from blooming spring fields to goldenrod-filled autumn meadows—creates subtle differences in each harvest.

Harvesting and Packaging with Care

Harvest season is a busy and beautiful time. Frank begins by gently removing frames from the hives, carefully brushing away bees and ensuring that each frame is ready for extraction. The honey is then spun from the comb, filtered, and hand-poured into jars—unheated and unprocessed to preserve its natural enzymes and nutrients.

Everything is done with love and attention to detail—from hive to hand.

A Legacy of Hard Work and Passion

Frank Licata’s passion for beekeeping is more than a profession—it’s a legacy he shares with our entire family. His deep respect for the bees and tireless work ethic are reflected in every bar of soap, every jar of honey, and every candle we offer. He is not only a master beekeeper, but also the reason our products are infused with such care and authenticity.
